About Us

History: Beenleigh Netball was founded by Maree Crawford in the early 1980’s. It grew out of the Beenleigh Netball Club, which was formed in 1980 and became the first lessee of the Hammel Park Courts under the trustees of Shirley Moore and Win Metcalfe. The Hammel Park Netball Courts were a Quota Beenleigh project handed over to the Beenleigh Netball Club after completion.

Growth in the number and diversity of the team throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s saw the Beenleigh Netball Club develop into an independent Association. When the new indoor centre opened at Shailer Park all teams relocated, until the new Beenleigh Arena opened in May 1999.

In 1999 the Beenleigh Netball Association moved to premises at the Beenleigh Arena Sports Centre and operated netball fixtures with affiliation to the Combined Australian Netball Association (CANA) as their governing body. Fixtures began at the Arena in September 1999 under the leadership of President Maree Crawford (now Robbins) and with the employment of Administrator Sharon Crawford. Sharon left to pursue a career with Qld Health(but is still active as a member) and Bronnie O’Brien is now the Administrator.

Beenleigh Netball retuned to Hammel Park in 2010 -2012 working with Local government and all community stakeholders to upgrade and restore the court facilities. Since then there has been a new lighting system, solar panels, canteen upgrade, the redevelopment of the nine courts with the new Laykold surface and the Clubhouse refurbishment.

Demand and resource requirements of the Beenleigh Netball Association has seen the need for increasing regulatory compliance, development of a business planning framework and the concurrent demands for risk management planning and fulfillment of community service obligations.

Beenleigh Netball has always had a strong community focus, entering the local Cane Festival parade for years, and encouraging all player, regardless of age, gender or experience to come and give netball a go. Beenleigh Netball now boasts a high level of coach and umpire accreditation, with Representative Players at a Australian, State, Regional and Local Level.

Beenleigh Netball is committed to recognising all talent in its members and helping them reach their full potential as netballers.
